Do you use NTEmacs? Ever try moving files under "\Documents and Settings" under dired only to have the rename fail? Ever whack your registry to try and "fix" this problem?
Doh!I've used Junction (www.sysinternals.com) for a long time now. I recently renamed some files on my desktop (yes, I use EMACS / dired for that, instead of drag-and-drop). It just dawned on me that creating \Documents_and_Settings as a file system alias for "\Documents and Settings" solves the problem nicely. NTEmacs has minor problems with dired under this directory hierarchy. Using junction, you can avoid the issue by creating a valid file system alias for "\Documents and Settings". This will probably create havoc with your backup system unless you're selective. (These are fixed by the way with EMACSW32.) |
